Hi Andy, Excellent site. The antenna info certainly helped me. I have been operating 160m with a homebrew helical up at 40' for over a year now. I have made many "inter G" contacts. I was delighted to be able to contact Canada & the USA with this antenna on the dx window. My secret weapon for noise reduction is a 3' copper hot water tank, buried 4' in the ground & connected up to the antenna ground system. It has reduced my background noise level by 2 s points on Topband. The homebrew loop works a treat on 20m & 17m.
Main radio here is a kenwood TS870 with a TS830 of 1981 vintage as backup. I purchased a TS480SAT in 2006 for mobile. Apart from the homebrew antennas I have a full size 80m Carolina Windom. I can be found most evenings on 1.972 from 18.30 hrs.
Regards,
Phil. m0vey

Hi Andy,
Very nice page, I enjoyed the pics and the write ups on the guys and gals.
I've known most of them for a good many years now, and Murtada the (Turkey) is always a pleasure along with Salim that I haven't heard in while.
Dave (K3LP) is a fantatic DXer and always enjoy working him all over, as we all know he enjoys DXing.....Tony is the backbone of the group along with Walt, without those 2 the group would not be the same...
I hope to meet you one of these days, I have a strange schedule of operating times but who knows might catch you on 80 meters one night.
Keep up the good work !!!

I really enjoy practical antenna designs that do not cost a fortune to build. I have an English piblication "More Out of Thin Air" antenna theorey, design, and construction and feel that it is very helpful. World Radio Books also publishes a $12 book call "The Esay Way" HF Anetenna System by J.M. Haerle which is excellent for new and seasoned amateur radio operators. The USA approach seems to be throw a lot of money at antennas and of course this works if you have the money and land for such projects. However many hams do not have hugh budgets and large lots. Kepp up the good work. 73 Don K3PRN
